Final WBCRT practice of 2008/9 training program

Message from Toby Dryden, WBCRT training officer:

The final event from the WBCRT 2008/2009 Training Programme will be a
Rescue Practise at Llethrid Swallet on Saturday 17th January.

We will be meeting on the Gower at 9.30am on the B4271 at Grid
Reference SS 538 916, around 800 metres before reaching Llethrid
Bridge. The WBCRT Rescue Landrover will be parked at this point and
you will be given directions for parking from there.

The practice will be a Medical/Rescue scenario from the main chamber
of Llethrid Swallet and a variety of roles will be offered for the
practice, both underground and on the surface.

For those unfamiliar with the cave, the entrance series involves a
series of crawls and rift passages with one or two ’smaller’ sections,
leading to a huge chamber (where a WBCRT Rescue Dump is located).

If the weather is wet leading up to the day, we will change the venue
to OFD 1 1/2, as the Llethrid Entrance Series is liable to flooding.

Please telephone SWCC on 01639 730613 before leaving home on the
morning of the practice to check the venue – ask to speak to Toby or
to the Duty Officer.

What’s on in September

September is a quiet month for the club but it does have the highlight of the British caving calendar: Hidden Earth 2008.  For any new members that don’t know about Hidden Earth, it’s the annual UK caving conference, involving beer, lectures, beer, competitions, beer,…  The beer, is of course optional.  This year it’s being held in Otley, West Yorkshire and some of the club are going, use the club list to find lift shares.

Hope to see you at Hidden Earth,

James.

What’s on in August

Hi Folks,

Another month gone so it’s time for another update on club activities:

  • Pub meet, Plough and Harrow, Hammersmith, 7 August
  • Caving and canoeing weekend, Godre Pentre, 8-10 August. Contact Annie for details, I think kshe could use a few more cavers on her trip (see her earlier emails).
  • Bank holiday weekend, Godre Pentre, 23-25 August.
  • WBCRT Open day, auction and party, Penwyllt, 23 August. This is a good opportunity to show our face within WBCRT and also to drink lots of beer!

The diary is maintained on the club website at:

http://croydoncavingclub.org.uk/club-diary-2008/

Have a good August and I hope to see you soon.

James.
